　赤ん坊を背負い駆け出して来るのは、年季奉公のために田舎から江戸に出てきた子守娘です。江戸の正月、初詣の縁起物で三つのお面をぶら下げた笹の枝を持った娘が、愚図る赤ん坊をあやしながら道草をする様子を舞踊化した作品です。
　子守唄を唄いながら赤ん坊を下ろして寝かしつけますが、鞠突きの遊びを思いつきそっとその場を離れて遊びに興じてしまいます。しかし赤ん坊がむずかり出してしまうので、笹に付いているお面を取ってオカメ面、恵比寿面、そしてヒョットコ面を被って赤ん坊をあの手この手であやします。
　お面の遊びではオカメが酒の宴で神楽を踊り囃し、そこにそれを見ていた恵比寿が酔って現れます。オカメは恵比寿がなかなか嫁に貰ってくれないので他へ嫁入りをすると言うと、恵比寿が怒り二人の仲の良い葛藤が始まります。そこへヒョットコが羨ましそうにやって来て自分も恋の願掛けをするのです。
　遊びに夢中になっていると、またもや赤ん坊が泣き出してしまい子守娘はむずかる赤ん坊を抱きかかえてさて何処で寄り道するのやら。

This dance depicts a cute, innocent girl babysitting on a beautiful new year’s day. The girl has come to Tokyo to work as a nursemaid, or “ komori ” in Japanese.
The young nursemaid is on her way back home from a local shrine festival. Carrying him on her back, she entertains the baby by showing the traditional comical masks tied to a toy bamboo branch from the festival. She sings a lullaby, hoping to have the baby sleep. Still a young girl herself, she has an urge to play. As she amuses herself with a small ball, the baby begins to make a fuss again. Finally, she decides to yank the masks off from the branch, wear each of them to tell him amusing stories, and hopes to comfort the baby, as she wanders back to wherever she needs to go.
